Gunpowder Birth
The Williamsburg Magazine as seen in this print is an original 18th century building in the city of Williamsburg, Virginia, one of America's colonial capitols.
Built in 1715 to store the arms and ammunition, this building was the stage for part of the fight for American Independence. In April 1775, the Governor ordered the arsenal emptied an event that sparked anger amongst the colonists. This became known as the Gunpowder Incident.
This art print captures this building at the heart of that long ago battle of wills that eventually came to found a new nation.
