It’s interesting, this year I just had not managed to drum up any excitement that DragonCon was on its way. This would be my 10th straight DragonCon. I’ve never missed one since moving into the Atlanta area. And every year has also been an opportunity to see Brandy and share some geeky times together.
I’ve kept waffling for months. I’d finally gotten to a point of thinking maybe I’d do a one day pass sometime during the weekend once I had a look at the schedule.
So, yesterday, I had the follow up with the doc about my ankle. Feels much better but I still have a twinge when I flex my ankle in either extreme. You might say, “then don’t do it,” but it’s one of those things that you do when you walk, even sometimes just sitting still. Could I live with it? I suppose, but it’s not fun and I hopefully have many years left ahead of me.
This is the bone chip the x-rays showed. When I point to the spot that hurts, it’s precisely the same location. Now, the fun thing is, this is not part of my recent ankle injury exactly. The bone chip appears to have been there. However, it appears the fall may have moved it as now even with the swelling gone, it’s still needling away at me.
One word… surgery…
It’s outpatient and it’s scheduled for Friday, August 31st, the Friday DragonCon starts. So, I’m definitely skipping this year now.
My Mom is going to come up to go with me and drive me back home that day. Then we’ll probably go home Saturday and spend the rest of the long weekend there.
It’s apparently a very minor surgery, but never having been on the operating table before, it’s a bit daunting. So, I’m very glad my Mom is able to come up and be here.

Thursday I flew up to Boston for a Friday meeting for work. Seeing as the airfare was the same Friday afternoon or Monday morning, I was lucky to be able to take advantage of the opportunity to stay through the weekend on my own dime and take a half day off work today.

Today was back to find out the results of the MRI.
Has anyone ever gotten a concrete answer from these things or is just me?
Well, I’ve got good news anyway. I have not (more…)

A few weeks ago, I sat in a theater and watched a trailer for a film called Stardust, and I resolved to see it for a very silly reason. Granted much that is good has stood on nonsensical ground, my grounds were that much of the on location photography was filmed in beautiful Scotland. Much appears to have been, in fact, captured on paths I (more…)

Exausted but well pleased!
Deramtologist visit this afternoon in Buckhead area and then loitering about as long as I could before wandering down to Vinyl to catch The Automatic in their last US show before going back to the UK to continue touring.
The opening act, Modern Society, was pretty good. I think more of the audience knew their stuff than me, local act. I’ll check out their stuff some more once I’m awake. I was cash-less or I would have probably just taken the plunge on the CD - not something I do lightly.
The tables were turned for the next band. Where Modern Society had a group singing along down front, The Automatic appear to be less well known locally and there were maybe two or three of us singing along with every song.
When I was in Scotland, I kept hearing Monster. Everytime I turned around, I heard that song. So, I gave the CD a quick listen in a music store on Princes Street in Edinburgh, liked the general vibe and bought it. That disc (and ripped mp3s) been in heavy rotation every since. That’s since January, so 8 mos of solid enjoyment.
And live was in no way shape or form a disappointment. Incredible level of energy! Small club, small crowd (I wish for the band’s sake larger, but it was the awesome as it was). I was down front with my big aircast boot thing and all and totally forgot how tired I was or that I was bouncing along in this awkward piece of plastic. I wouldn’t hesitate to see them again and hope they come back soon!
Next up, Kaiser Chiefs in September at the Roxy, and apparently RCPM is making a stop a few days later in Athens.
